Las Vegas Offers Huge Discounts on Rooms

By ANTHONY CURTIS / Special Contributor to The Dallas Morning News

With the holiday season approaching, now is the best time to lock in a low room rate in Las Vegas, and the state of the economy has pushed rates to their lowest levels in years.

The week of Nov. 17, Las Vegas Advisor called every casino in town, looking for the best leads on lodging for December. The rates below were available either by calling in, consulting casino Web sites or using third-party reservations facilities.

The list serves as a guide to potential low rates you can obtain by phone. Prices change quickly, though, and rates are higher during the National Finals Rodeo (Dec. 4-13). This year’s period of deepest discounts is Dec. 14-24. All told, 38 casinos have rooms going for less than $40 this year. That’s 10 more than last year’s total. Plus, many good deals are available on the high end. Here’s the lineup.

Under $20: El Cortez ($14).

Under $30: Arizona Charlie’s East, Binion’s, Boulder Station, Circus Circus, Eastside Cannery, Fiesta Henderson, Fiesta Rancho, Fitzgerald’s, Gold Coast, Gold Spike, Hooters, Orleans, Palace Station, Plaza, Riviera, Sahara, Sam’s Town, Silverton, Stratosphere, Terrible’s, Texas Station, Tuscany, Vegas Club, Wild Wild West.

Under $40: Arizona Charlie’s West, California, Casino Royale, Excalibur, Four Queens, Fremont, Golden Gate, Imperial Palace, Longhorn Super 8, Main Street Station, South Point, Lucky Club, Tropicana.

High end: The pre-holidays offer a great opportunity to stay at the more expensive casinos at bargain prices. The following all quoted midweek rates of $89 or less via phone or Internet: Aliante Station, Bally’s, Flamingo, Golden Nugget, Green Valley Ranch, Hard Rock, Harrah’s, Las Vegas Hilton, Luxor, Mirage, Monte Carlo, MGM Grand, New York-New York, Paris, Planet Hollywood, Red Rock, Rio and Treasure Island.
